From March 16, Washington will enforce terrorist designation on Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood

The U.S. administration said its designation of the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood as a Foreign Terrorist Organization will take effect on March 16, adding a new political and security development to the Sudan file and placing the group under a tougher legal and financial framework in the United States.
The State Department also said the group had been designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, broadening the sanctions and restrictions tied to it under the U.S. system.
U.S. Treasury records show the entity was listed under alternative names including Sudanese Islamic Movement and Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan, while Al-Baraa Bin Malik Brigade was identified as an associated entity.
The move carries added weight because it comes at a highly sensitive moment for Sudan and signals a harder American line toward actors Washington says are linked to armed violence and instability in the country. For now, the public basis of the step rests on official U.S. statements, while the wider regional and political fallout will depend on responses in the coming days.
