Air Canada trims New York flights for summer, urges travellers to check bookings early

Air Canada has announced a reduction in its daily New York service starting June 1, 2026, including a temporary suspension of flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport from Toronto and Montreal until Oct. 25, 2026. The move lowers the airline’s daily New York-area schedule from 38 flights to 34, as the carrier says soaring jet fuel prices have made some routes less economically viable.
According to the airline, the temporary suspension affects the JFK-Toronto and JFK-Montreal routes, with service expected to resume on Oct. 25. Air Canada said affected customers will be contacted with alternate travel options. The airline will continue serving the New York area through LaGuardia and Newark, meaning travel to the city is still available, but some passengers may see changes in airport, timing, or routing.
For travellers with early summer bookings to New York, especially from June 1 onward, checking reservations ahead of time looks like a practical step to confirm the arrival airport, departure time, and any changes to the itinerary. The service change is particularly relevant for passengers departing from Toronto and Montreal, since the announced cuts apply specifically to JFK service rather than all New York flights.
