Canada and Saudi Arabia Discuss Economic Partnership

Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, has spoken with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Commerce, Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi, to discuss ways to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.
According to Global Affairs Canada, Sidhu expressed Canada’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia following what Ottawa described as unacceptable Iranian attacks across the Middle East, including the Gulf states. The two ministers also discussed the rapidly changing global economic landscape and the importance of the Canada-Saudi trade and investment relationship.
The discussion focused on expanding business-to-business connections, deepening commercial relations, and advancing current negotiations toward a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement between Canada and Saudi Arabia.
Sidhu reaffirmed Canada’s interest in reaching a mutually beneficial agreement that would strengthen economic ties and boost investor confidence in Canada as a stable and reliable investment destination.
Global Affairs Canada also said the minister offered Canadian expertise in strengthening logistics and supply chain lines amid the current conflict in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a development with wider implications for global trade, shipping, and energy markets.
The Saudi Embassy in Canada welcomed the discussions, describing them as constructive and reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening the economic partnership between the two friendly countries.
