Canada Releases World Cup 2026 Coin

The Royal Canadian Mint has released a new one-dollar commemorative circulation coin celebrating Canada’s role as a host nation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The coin was unveiled on May 14, 2026, at Vancouver’s BC Place, one of Canada’s two World Cup host venues alongside Toronto. It is being issued in both struck and colourized versions and began circulating the same day.

The release is limited to three million coins, including two million colourized versions. Canadians are expected to find the coin in their change as banks and businesses replenish their inventories of one-dollar coins.

Designed by Canadian artist Glen Green, the reverse side of the coin features World Cup and Canadian design elements, including a moving soccer ball, references to Toronto and Vancouver as Canadian host cities, and a maple leaf-inspired mosaic. The obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.

The release marks a historic moment for Canada. The 2026 tournament will be the first men’s FIFA World Cup hosted by three countries, Canada, the United States, and Mexico, and the first time Canada hosts matches in the men’s tournament. Toronto and Vancouver will host 13 matches combined during the event.

Toronto is scheduled to host six matches, while Vancouver will host seven at BC Place. Canada’s men’s national team is also set to play on home soil in both host cities, adding to the symbolic weight of the coin.

The Mint has also released collector products connected to the tournament, including a five-coin set that contains both versions of the one-dollar circulation coin and additional quarter-dollar designs inspired by World Cup themes.

For Canadians, the coin turns the World Cup into something people may encounter in everyday life, not only in stadiums and fan zones, but also in ordinary change. It is a small keepsake tied to a major sporting moment that will place Canada on the global football stage in summer 2026.
