DP World, Arctic Gateway Group and CentrePort Canada have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a transport corridor connecting Manitoba’s Port of Churchill with inland facilities and international shipping networks.
Announced Monday, the agreement covers potential cooperation in port operations and logistics, linking Churchill and the Hudson Bay Railway with CentrePort’s hub near Winnipeg’s airport and DP World’s global network. Indigenous- and community-owned Arctic Gateway operates the port and railway.
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew said in the partners’ release that the cooperation aims to move more Canadian products to global markets, attract investment and create jobs in the province.
The Canadian Press reported renewed interest in the northern port after years of limited traffic, as Canada seeks additional trade routes and declining sea ice raises the possibility of a longer shipping season.
