France moved back to the top of the FIFA men’s world rankings in the official update published on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, while Morocco held on to eighth place and remained among the game’s leading national teams.
FIFA’s official country pages show France rising from third in the last official update to first in the current ranking, while Morocco remain eighth after reaching that position as their best-ever ranking in January 2026.
The French return to No. 1 is significant because it is their first time back at the summit since September 2018, when France and Belgium shared top spot in the first joint leadership in the history of the FIFA rankings.
Morocco, meanwhile, have consolidated their place in the global elite by holding eighth spot in the April update after first reaching that historic high earlier this year
