Hezbollah resumes fire on northern Israel after 9 hours of calm

Hezbollah resumed fire toward northern Israel early Thursday, saying it launched a rocket barrage after roughly nine hours of calm on the Lebanon Israel front and describing the attack as a response to what it called a breach of the ceasefire. Israeli reports said warning sirens sounded in border communities, while Hezbollah said the strike was the first attack it had claimed since the pause linked to the U.S.-Iran truce.
The group said the barrage targeted the settlement of Manara at 2:30 a.m., while Israeli media reported alerts in areas including Margaliot. The claim came just hours after a major Israeli escalation in Lebanon, as both sides continued to dispute whether the Lebanese front was covered by the ceasefire arrangement.
The exchange followed large Israeli strikes across Lebanon on Wednesday. Reuters reported that Israel hit more than 100 sites in about 10 minutes across Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon, in what was described as the heaviest wave of attacks since the renewed war with Hezbollah began. Lebanon’s civil defence said 254 people were killed and more than 1,100 wounded, while the Lebanese health ministry gave a preliminary toll of 182 dead and said the figure was not final.
At the same time, a political dispute deepened over the scope of the truce. Iran, Lebanese officials and mediators said Lebanon should be covered by the ceasefire, while Israel, backed by the U.S. position, maintained that the Lebanese front was not included, leaving the door open to renewed escalation despite the Washington Tehran deal.
