Iran: missile capabilities not negotiable in talks track with Washington

A senior adviser to Iran’s leadership said the country’s missile capabilities are “non-negotiable” and a red line for Tehran, as the region watches for further diplomatic contacts aimed at avoiding escalation.
Reuters reported the remarks came as indirect contacts between Tehran and the United States have been discussed following talks hosted in Oman, while Washington has pushed for any framework to go beyond the nuclear file to include Iran’s missile program, a position also backed by Israel.
Iran, however, says it is open to negotiating nuclear restrictions in exchange for sanctions relief but rejects linking missiles to that track; Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reiterated the missile program has never been on the negotiation agenda.
