Tehran saw unusually heavy outbound traffic and long fuel lines on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, as residents scrambled for essentials amid escalating strikes and uncertainty, Reuters reported.

Against that backdrop, Iran’s top security body urged Tehran residents to relocate to other cities “if possible,” with the guidance aimed at reducing pressure on the capital as emergency measures expanded, according to Reuters. Al Jazeera said some residents received the message via SMS, encouraging calm movement where feasible.

The disruption was compounded by a sharp communications breakdown. The Washington Post, citing NetBlocks monitoring, reported a near-total internet blackout, with national connectivity dropping to about 4% of normal levels.

Reuters also said the ripple effects reached daily services, including difficulty accessing fuel and cash, while schools and universities were shut nationwide as authorities moved deeper into crisis mode.
