Iran and the U.S. agree to continue Muscat talks despite “deep mistrust”

The latest round of indirect negotiations ended in Muscat with an understanding that talks will continue after delegations return to their capitals for consultations, according to Reuters reporting.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the meeting a “good start” but said the lack of trust remains a major hurdle, adding that the next steps will be coordinated following internal discussions.
Reuters said the discussions were mediated by Oman and remain complicated by disagreements over scope: U.S. officials have pushed to broaden the agenda beyond nuclear issues, while Iran insists negotiations focus only on the nuclear file and rejects talks on its missile programme.
The Associated Press described the session as aimed at setting a framework for follow-on diplomacy amid heightened political and military pressure, with no public sign of a breakthrough at this stage.
