Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority chief Shmuel Zakai warned foreign airlines that the weekend of Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 could mark the start of a more "security-sensitive period" for international flights, according to media reports citing a letter sent to carriers operating at Ben Gurion Airport.
Reports said the warning reflects security risk assessments amid heightened regional tensions, though no official decision to close Israeli airspace has been announced.
In the event of an airspace closure, Zakai was reported to have said priority would be given to outbound flights by foreign airlines to help carriers and passengers exit quickly and minimize disruption
