Jeddah is expected to host a trilateral summit on Friday, August 7, 2026, bringing together Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif amid rising security and political tensions in the Gulf.
A source close to the Saudi government told Agence France-Presse that the three leaders would hold a joint meeting in Jeddah. Saudi authorities had not issued an official agenda or detailed announcement at the time of publication.
Türkiye’s presidency confirmed that Erdoğan would make a one-day working visit to Saudi Arabia and hold separate meetings with Mohammed bin Salman and Sharif. The Turkish announcement did not provide an agenda or explicitly describe a trilateral session, meaning the final format awaits official statements from Jeddah.
Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday with Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, for a visit continuing through Saturday. Erdoğan is due to arrive Friday, days after discussing bilateral ties and regional developments with the Saudi crown prince by telephone.
The meetings come as the region confronts overlapping challenges involving Gulf and Red Sea shipping security, tensions surrounding Iran, the Gaza war and renewed violence in southern Lebanon. No specific agreement or initiative has yet been officially announced for the summit.
Pakistan’s participation carries additional significance because of its close defence relationship with Saudi Arabia, while Riyadh and Ankara have expanded political, economic and security cooperation in recent years.
In practical terms, Jeddah will host high-level diplomacy among three influential regional and Muslim-majority states. The significance of the meeting, however, will depend on the official statement and any concrete decisions announced afterward.
