A widening investigation is underway after an Air Canada Express flight arriving from Montreal collided with a fire truck while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, in a crash that has pushed runway safety and ground-vehicle movement back into the spotlight.
The collision killed both pilots and left dozens of others injured, including passengers, crew members and airport personnel, as U.S. authorities continue to examine the chain of events that led to the impact.
A central focus of the investigation is how an emergency vehicle ended up in the aircraft’s path during landing, and whether coordination between air traffic control and ground response teams was handled properly in the critical moments before the crash.
The story now extends beyond a single aviation tragedy. It is raising broader questions about safety procedures at busy airports, especially when aircraft operations intersect with emergency response activity on the ground.
