Laureus 2026 nominations unveiled as Madrid set to host awards night in April

Laureus has announced the nominee list for the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards, with winners to be revealed on April 20 in Madrid. The Laureus World Sports Academy will select the recipients, recognising standout achievements from 2025.
The Sportsman of the Year shortlist features Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner alongside Mondo Duplantis, Ousmane Dembélé, Marc Márquez and Tadej Pogačar.
In the Sportswoman category, nominees span football, athletics, swimming and tennis, including Aitana Bonmatí, Katie Ledecky, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Faith Kipyegon, Aryna Sabalenka and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
Team of the Year contenders include England’s women’s football team, Paris Saint-Germain, McLaren’s Formula 1 team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, India’s women’s cricket team and Team Europe from the Ryder Cup.
The Breakthrough list includes Canada’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, darts star Luke Littler, F1 champion Lando Norris, tennis prospect João Fonseca, footballer Désiré Doué and swimmer Zidi Yu.
Additional shortlists cover Comeback of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability, Action Sportsperson of the Year and the Sport for Good Award, as Laureus highlights both elite performance and community impact.
