Several platforms owned by Meta experienced a widespread technical disruption on Friday, June 12, 2026, affecting thousands of users around the world and limiting access to services including Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, with some business-related tools also affected

.

According to Reuters, the disruption began at around 9:20 a.m. Eastern Time, before services gradually started recovering later in the day. Data from Downdetector, which tracks user-reported outages, showed a sharp increase in complaints, with Facebook reports peaking at more than 113,000, while Instagram reports reached around 10,000.

Meta said it was aware of the issue and was working to resolve it, but the company did not immediately disclose the technical cause of the outage. By late morning, user reports had dropped significantly, suggesting that services were gradually returning. Downdetector figures are based on user submissions and may not reflect the total number of affected users.

The disruption did not only affect personal users. Technical reports also pointed to problems across several Meta business services, including Facebook Ads Manager, Messenger API, Messenger Platform, and WhatsApp Business Platform, meaning some businesses relying on ads, messaging, and customer service tools may also have been impacted.

Users reported login issues, blank screens, messaging problems, and difficulty accessing usual features. Many turned to other platforms, especially X, to check whether the outage was global or limited to their own accounts.

Although the outage appeared temporary, it highlighted once again how deeply daily communication, business operations, advertising, page management, and customer service have become tied to a small number of digital platforms used by millions around the world.

Meta has not yet announced the exact technical reason behind the disruption, while the latest reports indicate that most services have been gradually recovering.
