Metro Vancouver gas prices keep climbing as more increases are expected this week

Gas prices in Metro Vancouver are continuing to squeeze consumers at the start of the week, with the average price reaching C$2.11 per litre on Sunday, up 1.4 cents over the past week, and analysts warning that further increases are likely in the days ahead.

According to local reporting based on GasBuddy data, the latest jump is tied to ongoing pressure in global oil markets, including supply disruptions linked to traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Those pressures have lifted wholesale costs and raised expectations that Canadian drivers could see more pain at the pump this week.

Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, said the national average could continue climbing in the coming days as oil markets remain under intense strain. The same report said diesel prices have also hit a record 225 cents per litre, underlining how tense the fuel market has become.

The local spread also shows how uneven prices have become across the region. As of Monday morning, stations in Metro Vancouver were posting prices ranging from C$2.04 to C$2.35 per litre, while the Canadian national average for regular gasoline stood at C$1.80 per litre on Sunday. That makes the Vancouver gas story one of the clearest day-to-day cost-of-living stories for readers this week.
