Israel came under fresh missile barrages early Friday, while U.S. Central Command said four American service members were killed in the crash of a KC-135 refueling aircraft in western Iraq during a military mission in the region.

U.S. Central Command said the aircraft was one of two planes involved in the same mission, while the second landed safely. Search and rescue efforts were continuing for two crew members who remained unaccounted for at the time of the announcement.

Washington said the crash was not caused by hostile fire or friendly fire, adding that the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

The development came as the confrontation between Iran and Israel continued to widen across multiple fronts, with local reports cited by Reuters saying dozens were injured and homes were damaged in northern Israel after Iranian missile strikes early Friday.
