Barcelona - Media reports have sparked debate after linking former Spain coach Robert Moreno’s departure from Russian club FC Sochi to alleged heavy reliance on the ChatGPT chatbot for tactical and operational decisions.

According to accounts attributed to a former club executive and carried by several outlets, Moreno repeatedly consulted the AI tool on matters ranging from planning and logistics to football-related choices, including a widely shared claim about a long-haul trip schedule that left players awake for an extended period.

Moreno has publicly denied the allegations. Spain’s AS quoted him as saying he used ChatGPT only for Spanish-to-Russian translation and never for match preparation or sporting decisions, adding that his exit was by mutual agreement rather than a straight dismissal.

Reports say Moreno left Sochi in September 2025 following poor results, with the AI-related claims resurfacing in late January 2026 after being amplified across multiple platforms
