North Korea Restructures Kim’s Security Amid Assassination Fears

Reports from intelligence sources and international security analysts indicate that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has carried out a significant reshuffle of senior personnel in his personal security apparatus, seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen protective measures against potential targeted operations.

South Korea’s Ministry of Unification stated that Pyongyang replaced top officials in three major security units responsible for safeguarding Kim, including the Guard Office of the ruling party, the Guard Department of the State Affairs Commission, and the Bodyguard Command of the Korean People’s Army. Observers first detected the changes during a military parade held in October last year.

According to a report by Euronews, the move comes amid fears in Pyongyang of possible assassination attempts, an anxiety that has grown in light of international developments, including reports around the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January. Analysts describe such threats as part of an assassination scenario that could destabilize a regime by removing its top leadership.

Security analysts note that the restructuring extends beyond personnel changes to include efforts to acquire advanced anti-drone technology and communications jamming systems, reflecting concerns about sophisticated attack methods.

These developments occur in a broader context of heightened international tensions, with Pyongyang focused on strengthening its internal defenses and protecting its leadership amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
