From Emergencies to Mental Health Crises: The Help Numbers Ottawa Residents Should Know

Ottawa residents are being reminded to use the appropriate number when they need emergency assistance, mental-health or substance-use support, municipal services or help during a suicide crisis.
911 should be called for life-threatening medical emergencies, an unresponsive person, a serious overdose, fires, violence or crimes in progress.
Residents within the service area of ANCHOR — Alternate Neighbourhood Crisis Response — can call 211 for mental-health or substance-use crises, suicide concerns, erratic behaviour, well-being checks, verbal disputes and referrals to support services. ANCHOR operates around the clock within a defined area of Ottawa.
311 connects residents with City of Ottawa services and can be used to report issues including unsheltered homelessness and discarded needles or drug-use equipment in public areas.
Across Canada, people experiencing suicidal thoughts — or those concerned about someone else — can call or text 988, the national Suicide Crisis Helpline, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
