Quebec Makes Daycare Search Easier With Official Registration and Waiting List Portal

Quebec is moving toward a more organized childcare registration system through its official Childcare Services Registration Portal, a centralized platform that allows parents to create a family file, search for childcare services, submit admission requests, track applications and update contact information. The province says the portal is designed to make the allocation of childcare spaces more transparent and equitable for families.

The portal, known in French as Portail d’inscription aux services de garde, replaces the former La Place 0-5 platform. Parents looking for educational childcare in Quebec must now use the new portal to register their child and manage admission requests.

Through the system, families can apply to several waiting lists, search by location and childcare needs, and use an interactive map showing information such as opening hours, fees, available services, priority criteria and inspection reports where available.

The government says only children who have already been born, or who have arrived in their family in the case of adoption, can be registered. Parents must also confirm the child’s identity within 90 days of creating the file to avoid possible suspension of admission requests.

A key feature of the new system is the waiting list rank indicator for CPEs and subsidized daycare centres. The indicator is updated monthly and gives parents an approximate view of their child’s position, although it can fluctuate depending on family changes, withdrawals, priority categories and the availability of spaces. Non-subsidized daycares and home childcare services follow a different process and do not display the same type of rank indicator.

For Arab and immigrant families in Quebec, the portal is an important service story. Finding daycare in Montreal and other parts of the province can be stressful, especially for parents returning to work or school. The new portal does not guarantee a quick space, but it gives families a clearer official path to search, register and follow up.

The practical advice for parents is simple: create or access the official account, keep contact information updated, register on more than one suitable waiting list, check the account regularly, and choose a realistic preferred admission date. Quebec warns that if a family sets an earlier date than they actually need and then refuses an offered space, the child may be removed from that childcare service’s waiting list.
