The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled Alarjawi’s Royal Zaatar after identifying possible Salmonella contamination, saying the product was distributed in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia. No illnesses had been reported as of the recall notice. The affected product is the 450 g package with UPC 6 212055 036239.

The agency told consumers not to consume, sell, serve, or distribute the product, and said it should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. It also warned that food contaminated with Salmonella may look and smell normal while still causing illness, with higher risks for young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

CFIA said the recall was triggered by test results and that its food safety investigation is ongoing, which could lead to additional recalls as officials verify that the affected product is being removed from the marketplace.

Other notable health-related recalls and advisories this week included a recall of certain cheese products over possible Listeria contamination on April 8, a recall of CO-OP Creamy Garlic and Spinach Salad on April 3 for the same reason, and a Health Canada advisory on April 9 warning against unauthorized injectable peptide drugs sold online.
