Spirit, Inspiration and Light

I found you
when I was searching
for a soul that resembled my own.
I saw you as an angel
in a paradise of beauty.

I saw you as a wild young mare,
and as an ambitious bird,
flying, singing,
dreaming of freedom,
as only birds can.

You ask,
How do you see me?
Then you run,
and try to flee,
yet I find you in my wrist,
without your knowing,
without my knowing,
without awareness.

We are gathered, my lady,
by the soul.
So we melt like moths around the light.
We stay awake together,
we burn together.
Sleep abandons us.
We keep vigil with the stars.
Existence itself disturbs us, my lady.

If we grow thirsty,
you give me drink and I give you drink
from the first rainwater,
and we are filled,
and dream of eternity.
And if we are broken,
our souls bind each other’s wounds.

Gently, beautiful lady,
what are you?
A joining hamza,
not one of separation,
so that we may remain together on the road.
Question marks,
and exclamation marks,
not traffic signs.

You ask me again,
How do you see me?
I tell you, and I speak the truth:
I see you as clarity,
as water, not air,
putting out the fire
on the fateful day.

What are you?
You, my lady,
are a flash of love
for a forbidden passion,
arriving at the end
of the promised time.

What are you?
You are nothing
but a white dove of peace
that I found flying,
singing for justice
and for freedom,
without fear
and without chains.

So be yourself,
and let me see you
as I first saw you,
before creation,
when I saw you
in the first garden of flowers,
a red rose
holding within it
the fragrance of existence.

For you, my beautiful lady,
are spirit,
inspiration,
and light.
