Those Who Resemble Us in Life

We may spend an entire lifetime without ever meeting those who truly resemble us, though they are many. Each kindred soul seems to wander in search of its counterpart, like one companion separated from another, moving through the crowded days in longing. And when such souls finally meet, the hour may have come too late, leaving them little time to dwell in their happiness. Yet a single moment of true joy in such a meeting may be worth a whole lifetime.

Those who resemble us in life are the ones who carry within them the very fabric of values, decency, and principle. They are shaped by dreams and hopes that belong to the vision of an ideal world, a world that never ceases to live within their imagination. They think in ways that echo our own, cherish freedom as we do, and wish goodness for others as sincerely as they wish it for themselves. They honor difference, even when beliefs and convictions diverge. They do not insult or slander, nor do they flatter, manipulate, or climb over others to rise. Their feelings are genuine, their lives unfalse, and their spirits untouched by blind fanaticism. They reject violence and extremism in all their forms.

Those who resemble us fear none but God. They worship Him more in silence than in display, and they revere Him out of love rather than fear, for they have tasted the sweetness of nearness. Between them and their Creator dwell private mysteries and quiet spiritual truths that keep what is right alive in their hearts, souls, and minds. They love knowledge and trust reason. They reflect, contemplate, and seek understanding. And when confronted by ignorance, they answer with peace and move on. In them, we seem to see ourselves, as though they were mirrors of the self and echoes of the soul. Though we rarely find them, life insists on scattering them apart, only to grant them, perhaps, one final meeting in the closing scene of its strange and absurd drama.

So often, in the innocence of beginnings, we imagine that some people resemble us, only to discover the illusion at the first disagreement or the first true test. But those who truly do resemble us are often known from the very first moment, even if the meeting itself comes late. For it is in life’s trials that human nature is revealed. Some people gleam outwardly like gold, only to prove no more than surface plating. Others are of true and noble substance. They are people of principle, unchanging and uncolored by convenience. They do exist in this life, and if we are fortunate enough to encounter them, we must hold fast to them with all our strength.

Those who resemble us are the ones who sleep with no hatred, resentment, envy, or bitterness in their hearts. They are the ones whose hearts are filled with peace and contentment. Love leaves its trace upon their faces, and within them shine the purity of the heart, the clarity of the soul, and the quiet beauty of the spirit.
