A summer street festival in Toronto turned into a scene of chaos Saturday evening after a shooting left two men dead and several others injured during the annual Salsa on St. Clair celebration. Toronto Police confirmed the incident occurred near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue, where thousands had gathered for the popular Latin cultural festival.
Witnesses described panic as festivalgoers ran for cover after multiple gunshots were heard. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where officers initially issued an active shooter warning before later clarifying that the violence resulted from an exchange of gunfire between targeted individuals rather than a random attack.
Police recovered two firearms at the scene and said no arrests had been made as of Sunday morning. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, noting that approximately 13,000 people were attending the festival when the shooting occurred.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the violence, while Prime Minister Mark Carney extended condolences to the victims' families and pledged support for law enforcement as the investigation continues.
