U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Canada will no longer be invited to join his proposed “Board of Peace,” a new diplomatic initiative unveiled earlier this week.

The announcement came via Trump’s post on his platform Truth Social, where he stated that Canada “will not be granted full membership,” citing what he called “a lack of sufficient respect from the Canadian government.”

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney defended the country’s independence, saying: “Canada doesn't thrive because it gets someone’s approval. Canada thrives because it is Canada.”

Speaking to the Associated Press, Carney added, “We are a nation, not anyone’s extension.”
