U.S. President Donald Trump refused to apologize after a video shared on his Truth Social account included racist imagery depicting former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, drawing broad condemnation and prompting the post’s removal.
Trump told reporters he had not watched the full clip before it was posted, said he condemned the racist segment, but would not apologize. Earlier, the White House said the post had been made in error by a staffer after initially dismissing criticism as “fake outrage” over an internet meme.
The clip also repeated false claims about the 2020 election, while critics pointed to the long history of dehumanizing racist tropes targeting Black Americans.
