Tunisia’s Ambassador to Canada Advances Community and Economic Engagement in Manitoba and Ottawa

His Excellency Lassad Boutara, Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Canada, held a series of official, community, and economic meetings in recent days, with engagements in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Ottawa focused on Francophone cooperation, the Tunisian community, and investment opportunities with Tunisia.
As part of a working visit to Manitoba, Ambassador Boutara took part in meetings with Canadian officials alongside the Francophone ambassadors’ group in Canada from April 23 to 26, 2026. The program included meetings with Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew, Renée Cable, Minister of Advanced Education and Training, Ginette Lavack, Member of Parliament for Saint Boniface Saint Vital and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous Services, and Glen Simard, Minister of Municipal and Northern Relations and Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs in Manitoba.
The visit formed part of a Francophone diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening dialogue with Manitoba institutions and exploring areas related to education, training, immigration, and Francophone affairs.
During his visit to Winnipeg, Ambassador Boutara also met with representatives of the Tunisian community in Manitoba. According to the Tunisian Embassy in Canada, the meeting addressed key challenges facing the community in the province, including professional integration, non-recognition of university degrees and professional qualifications, difficulties accessing consular services, and the lack of Arabic-language education for children seeking to preserve their national identity and cultural ties with Tunisia.
The ambassador encouraged participants to work toward creating an association that would strengthen solidarity among Tunisians in Manitoba, facilitate their integration into the province’s economic and social life, coordinate with embassy services and local authorities, support cultural initiatives, and defend the community’s interests and priorities.
In Ottawa, Ambassador Boutara received a business delegation on April 27, 2026, led by Canadian Senator Victor Oh and including Frank Zhang, president of Diamond Aircraft Industries, a group specializing in aeronautical industries and related services. According to the embassy, the meeting focused on prospects for cooperation with Tunisia in investment, economic partnerships, and training linked to the aeronautics sector.
