The World Cup of Hockey will return in 2028 after last being held in 2016, with Alberta set to host the Canadian portion of the tournament in Calgary and Edmonton, while Prague will host the European leg.
According to Reuters, the National Hockey League announced the tournament’s return on Monday, bringing back one of the sport’s most prominent international events outside the Olympic schedule.
Hosting games in Alberta highlights the province’s established place in hockey, supported by strong fan bases in both Calgary and Edmonton and facilities capable of staging major international competition.
The tournament is also expected to draw significant public and media attention in Canada as preparations move forward toward the 2028 event.
