Filming has wrapped on “Al Amir,” the six-part Arabic-language action thriller starring Egyptian actor Ahmed Ezz, following a production schedule that began in April and moved between Cairo and Riyadh. The series is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Shahid in 2027.
The series is directed by British filmmaker Stephen Hopkins, known for “24” and “Predator 2,” and brings together an Arab and international cast that includes Amina Khalil, Khaled El-Sawy, Samy El-Sheikh, Yasmina El-Abd, Turkish stars Tuba Büyüküstün and Meryem Uzerli, Spanish actor Pedro Alonso and British actor Paul Anderson.
“Al Amir” follows an Egyptian intelligence officer who infiltrates an international terrorist network by assuming the identity of one of the world’s most wanted fugitives. When the undercover operation begins to unravel, he is forced into a race against time to prevent an imminent attack while navigating betrayal and competing interests.
Filming took place at several locations in Cairo and at Al-Hisn Big Time Studios in Riyadh, with an international production team involved in the action sequences and technical execution.
The project is based on an original idea by Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, and was written by Egyptian screenwriter Salah El-Jheiny. It is backed by the General Entertainment Authority and produced by Sela Studios and MBC Shahid.
Alalshikh announced the completion of filming on August 28, thanking Ezz, the cast, crew and director Stephen Hopkins for their work on the production. The series will be released in Arabic with English subtitles.
Shahid has not yet announced a specific premiere date for “Al Amir” beyond confirming its release in 2027.
