Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz Head Toward Another Major 2027 Box-Office Clash

Two of Egyptian cinema’s biggest box-office names could be heading for another high-profile showdown in 2027, with Karim Abdel Aziz returning in “The Blue Elephant 3” and Ahmed Ezz preparing “Fer’et El Moot” (“Death Squad”) for release.
Fresh reports published on October 4 placed Ezz’s “Death Squad” in the Eid Al-Adha 2027 season and pointed to a potential head-to-head contest with Abdel Aziz’s third “Blue Elephant” film. However, an exact Eid release for “The Blue Elephant 3” has not yet been formally announced.
When filming began in June, both Abdel Aziz and Saudi General Entertainment Authority chairman Turki Alalshikh announced that “The Blue Elephant 3” was scheduled for summer 2027, without naming a specific holiday release window. The film reunites Abdel Aziz with writer Ahmed Mourad and director Marwan Hamed as psychiatrist Yehia Rashed returns for another chapter in the psychological thriller franchise.
Ezz, meanwhile, is still filming “Death Squad,” a period action thriller set against the backdrop of Egypt in the 1940s. He plays a police officer tasked with assembling a special unit to confront a powerful Upper Egyptian outlaw portrayed by Asser Yassin. Menna Shalaby, Mahmoud Hemeida, Riyad El Khouly and Essam Omar are among the cast. Salah El Gehiny wrote the film, with Ahmed Alaa El Deeb directing.
The production is expected to complete principal photography around October 15, 2026. Earlier reports had placed the film broadly in the summer 2027 calendar, while newer reports now identify Eid Al-Adha as its targeted release season.
A simultaneous release would revive a familiar box-office rivalry. Abdel Aziz's “The Blue Elephant 2” and Ezz's “Welad Rizk 2” were both major releases in 2019, while “El Baad La Yazhab Lil Maazoun Maratein” and “The Knower” put their names in the market again in 2021. Their careers have also repeatedly crossed on screen, including the 2022 blockbuster “Kira & El Gin” and 2026's “7Dogs.”
The two upcoming films also offer sharply different propositions: “The Blue Elephant 3” extends an established psychological mystery franchise, while “Death Squad” is built around action, crime and a period setting.
