The jury of the Argana World Poetry Prize in Rabat has awarded its 2026 prize to “Palestinian poetry,” represented by four poets: Ghassan Zaqtan, Youssef Abdel Aziz, Taher Riyad, and Zuhair Abu Shaib, in what organizers described as a first in the award’s history.

The House of Poetry in Morocco, which organizes the prize in partnership with Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, said this is the first time the award has gone to an entire poetic tradition rather than to a single poet, highlighting the diversity of voices within contemporary Palestinian poetry.

The four poets are scheduled to be honoured at an official ceremony on April 25, 2026, at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat. Organizers said the prize money will be divided equally among them, with each recipient also receiving the award shield and a certificate of recognition.

The decision also carries symbolic significance in the history of the prize, which had previously honoured late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish alongside a number of prominent Arab and international literary names in earlier editions.
