Bahrain accused Iran on Sunday, March 8, 2026, of carrying out an attack on a desalination plant, while international coverage showed the confrontation widening into other Gulf arenas as Israel launched strikes in both Tehran and Beirut. The Associated Press reported that smoke blanketed parts of the Iranian capital after a strike hit an oil facility, while Lebanon saw fresh Israeli strikes in Beirut.
Reuters, citing sources, reported that Saudi Arabia warned Tehran against attacking its territory or oil infrastructure and signaled possible retaliation if such attacks continue. The agency also said the Iranian strikes had, according to those sources, affected several Gulf states, highlighting how the crisis is moving beyond a direct Iran-Israel battlefield.
In Lebanon, Reuters reported that an Israeli strike hit a hotel building in Beirut, while Israel said it had targeted commanders linked to Iran’s Quds Force. The development places Lebanon back at the center of regional escalation as sensitive sites across multiple countries come under attack on the same day.
