Bodies of Child and Adult Recovered from Lake Erie After Overdue Boat Report

Ontario Provincial Police say the bodies of a seven year old child and a 53 year old man were recovered from Lake Erie after a boat was reported overdue near the community of St. Williams along the lake’s north shore.
Police said the victims, both from Norfolk County, were found more than 3.5 kilometres from shore by a passing vessel before the Canadian Coast Guard recovered the bodies from the water.
Authorities said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as the investigation continues. Canadian media also reported that OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk extended condolences to the victims’ families and friends.
The tragedy is renewing attention on boating safety across the Great Lakes, especially as changing weather conditions and long distances from shore can quickly create dangerous situations for boaters.
Officials continue to remind residents and visitors of the importance of wearing life jackets, checking weather conditions before departure, and sharing travel plans before heading onto the water.
