Mohamed Yassin to Direct Children of the Alley as Amr Saad Moves Into Production

Director Mohamed Yassin is preparing a new screen adaptation of Naguib Mahfouz’s Children of the Alley, in what will be actor Amr Saad’s first major production venture. Saad is involved as a producer and is not expected to take an acting role.
The project is currently in development, with casting and other creative preparations underway ahead of filming. A final cast and release date have not yet been announced.
The adaptation brings one of Mahfouz’s most famous and controversial novels back to the screen under Yassin, whose previous work includes Afrah Al-Qobba.
Children of the Alley was previously adapted as an Egyptian radio drama featuring performers including Samiha Ayoub, Abdullah Ghaith, Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra and Tawfik El-Dekn, but it has not previously become a widely released television series.
Mahfouz’s daughter Hoda had also said earlier that a formal agreement concerning the adaptation of Children of the Alley was reached in cooperation with producer Sadek El Sabbah and Amr Saad.
