The Egyptian Football Association on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, condemned the racist and anti Muslim abuse reported during Egypt’s friendly against Spain, calling the incident reprehensible and unacceptable. The statement came after Tuesday night’s match at RCDE Stadium near Barcelona, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
Catalan police have opened an investigation into the chants heard from sections of the crowd, despite anti racism warnings shown inside the stadium during the match. The incident was also condemned in Spain by the Spanish Football Federation and national team coach Luis de la Fuente, who said such behavior has no place in football.
Egypt’s response turned the story from a match incident into a wider statement about dignity, respect, and the limits of what sport should tolerate. The case also brings renewed attention to racism in European football at a particularly sensitive moment for the game. The final sentence is an editorial inference grounded in the public record and official reactions.
