Egyptian Flag Illuminates Niagara Falls as Ambassador Ahmed Hafez Concludes His Mission in Canada

Celebrations marking Egypt’s National Day in Canada concluded with a striking display on Thursday evening, July 23, 2026, as Niagara Falls was illuminated in the red, white and black colours of the Egyptian flag to commemorate the anniversary of the July 23 Revolution.
The special illumination provided a symbolic finale to a series of events held across Canada in celebration of Egypt’s National Day, highlighting the country’s cultural presence and the contributions of the Egyptian community to Canadian society.
Earlier on Thursday, the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Ottawa hosted an official reception at the residence of Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, Egypt’s Ambassador to Canada, to mark the anniversary of the July 23 Revolution.
The reception brought together senior representatives from Global Affairs Canada, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, prominent Canadian figures and members of the Egyptian community from across the country.
This year’s celebration carried particular significance as it coincided with the conclusion of Ambassador Hafez’s diplomatic assignment in Canada, following a tenure marked by efforts to strengthen Egyptian-Canadian relations and expand political, cultural and community engagement between the two countries.
In his remarks, Ambassador Hafez expressed his appreciation to the Canadian government for its cooperation with the Egyptian Embassy throughout his mission, noting that this support contributed to advancing bilateral relations and creating further opportunities for coordination between Cairo and Ottawa.
He also thanked Canadian officials and institutions that worked with the embassy during his tenure, praising their openness and commitment to strengthening ties with Egypt and serving the shared interests of both countries.
Ambassador Hafez paid tribute to the Egyptian community in Canada, describing its members as true ambassadors for their homeland who help build bridges of friendship, understanding and cultural communication between the Egyptian and Canadian peoples.
He highlighted the community’s achievements and active participation in Canadian society, saying their success reflects a positive and honourable image of Egypt, its culture and its ancient civilization.
The illumination of Niagara Falls in the colours of the Egyptian flag brought the National Day celebrations to a memorable close, delivering a message of friendship and mutual appreciation between Egypt and Canada.
