Egy Ottawa Events organized a free educational seminar in Ottawa on investing, saving and financial planning in Canada, as part of its Chai & Chat series of cultural and community gatherings aimed at sharing knowledge and experience within the community.

The session featured Dr. Ali Nawar, an expert in investment and financial transactions and owner of A. N. Financials, who delivered more than two hours of discussion on the fundamentals of investing and financial planning in Canada, followed by an open question and answer session with attendees.

Abeer El Khodary, a financial advisor with expertise in investment accounts, also participated in answering questions and providing practical explanations on several aspects of saving and investing.

The seminar covered around 19 topics, including the difference between financial services and investing, licensing requirements in Canada’s financial sector, the importance of defining financial goals before choosing an investment, the impact of inflation and investment risk, time horizons and an individual’s ability to tolerate risk.

Discussions also covered Mutual Funds and ETFs, active versus passive investing, market volatility and Bear Markets, as well as financial planning for buying a home and the use of accounts such as FHSA and RRSP, subject to applicable rules.

The session also addressed TFSA, RESP and RDSP accounts, retirement planning, real estate and gold as investment options, Sharia compliant investing, taxes and fees, estate planning and the importance of identifying beneficiaries for accounts and investments.

The discussion emphasized that investment decisions should begin with a clear understanding of a person’s goals, time horizon, risk tolerance and financial situation, rather than simply searching for a single investment that could be considered the best choice for everyone.

Egy Ottawa Events was established around three years ago by a group of Egyptian volunteers in Ottawa. Engineer Ahmed Zayed and Rehab El Sayad are among those involved in organizing the group’s community and educational activities.

The investment and savings seminar is part of these efforts to provide a free space for learning, discussion and the exchange of practical knowledge on topics relevant to community members living in Canada. At the conclusion of the session, attendees expressed their appreciation to Ahmed Zayed and Rehab El Sayad for their efforts in organizing educational gatherings that help increase awareness and financial knowledge within the community.
