Edmonton will host Explore Egypt on Saturday, August 15, 2026, a cultural and fundraising event organized by the Epilepsy Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta (EAENA) in collaboration with Pharaoh’s Restaurant and the Calgary Egyptian Folk Academy, with proceeds supporting a mental health project for children and youth living with epilepsy.

The event will bring together Egyptian cuisine, music, arts, folk performances and family activities, alongside presentations highlighting Egypt’s history, culture and tourism, creating a cultural setting that also raises awareness about epilepsy and supports families affected by the condition.

Dr. Mai Heikal, who proposed the idea for the evening, said the initiative was warmly received, reflecting the enthusiasm and curiosity she has seen among people interested in discovering Egyptian culture, traditions and customs. That response helped turn the idea into a community event combining an introduction to Egypt with support for an important humanitarian cause.

The program will feature Egyptian cultural and folkloric performances, including a performance by Egyptian-Canadian folk artist Radwa Nasr, as well as children’s art and colouring activities, family quizzes, a photo booth, Egyptian food and a small selection of Egypt-inspired souvenirs.

Funds raised through the event will support EAENA’s Kids with Epilepsy Mental Health Project. Donations can also be made through the Birdies 2026 campaign, where eligible contributions may receive additional matching support of up to 50%, increasing the funding available for mental health programs serving children and youth living with epilepsy.
