Visitors to Montréal’s Orientalys Festival will have the chance to experience traditional Egyptian clothing, history and culture as the Egyptian Tent opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Old Port of Montréal. The cultural program will continue through August 16.

The Egyptian Tent is organized for the third consecutive year by the Public Services for Immigrant Integration Association (SPDI), led by Alia Shafie and Hossam Mokbel, an organization that provides services and community activities for Arab residents in Canada.

One of this year’s main attractions is “Pose in Egyptian Dress,” an interactive heritage-fashion experience that allows visitors to wear and photograph themselves in a variety of traditional Egyptian outfits. The collection is designed to showcase the diversity of Egyptian clothing beyond the Pharaonic era.

The tent will also feature a small museum of replicas representing different periods of Egyptian civilization, presented in cooperation with the Egyptian Cultural Office in Montréal, headed by Dr. Ahmed Gaber.

A wide-ranging film program will introduce visitors to Egypt’s history, archaeology and internationally recognized cultural figures. Screenings will explore the pyramids, the Holy Family’s journey through Egypt, Cleopatra, Hatshepsut, Nefertiti, Tutankhamun and Ramses, as well as the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, underwater archaeological discoveries and ancient tombs.

The program will also highlight prominent Egyptian figures including Naguib Mahfouz, Umm Kulthum, Youssef Chahine and Dr. Magdi Yacoub, alongside films introducing children and international visitors to Egypt’s civilization and major tourist destinations. The film program is scheduled to conclude with Shadi Abdel Salam’s “The Mummy.”

Held at Montréal’s Old Port, Orientalys attracts visitors during the city’s busy summer tourism season and brings together cultural traditions from different communities.

According to the organizers, approximately 3,000 people visited the Egyptian Tent last year, reflecting growing interest in its cultural programming and its presentation of Egypt’s heritage to audiences in Canada.
