Khamenei Reshapes Iran’s Military Leadership With Six New Appointments

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued six decrees on Monday appointing senior commanders to key positions across Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Basij organization.
Major General Ali Abdollahi was appointed Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, while Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari was named deputy chief of staff.
Khamenei also appointed Ahmad Vahidi commander-in-chief of the IRGC and promoted him to the rank of major general. Mostafa Izadi was named deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards.
Rear Admiral Ali Ozmaei was appointed commander of the IRGC Navy, while Hossein Taeb was named head of the Basij organization.
The decrees place new commanders in some of Iran’s most influential military positions at a sensitive stage for Tehran, following the deaths of several senior military figures during the ongoing conflict and U.S.-Israeli strikes. Some of those formally appointed on Monday had already been publicly performing senior command roles before the decrees were issued.
