Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Canada, Amal bint Yahya Al-Moallimi, said Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to the Kingdom marks an important step in relations between the two countries, moving them beyond restored diplomatic ties toward broader cooperation in investment, education, and technology.

Al-Moallimi said the return of full diplomatic representation in 2023 helped rebuild momentum between Riyadh and Ottawa and was followed by growing interest from Canadian companies in investment opportunities across Saudi Arabia.

She added that Saudi diplomatic efforts in Canada have focused on introducing Canadian businesses to projects linked to Saudi Vision 2030 and strengthening connections between Saudi and Canadian institutions in economic, academic, and technological fields.

The ambassador also said that recent ministerial exchanges helped pave the way for Carney’s visit, which included senior Canadian ministers responsible for foreign affairs, finance, and defence.

According to Al-Moallimi, the composition of the delegation reflected a shared intention to transform the political rapprochement between the two countries into practical cooperation and long-term partnerships.

She also highlighted continued engagement with Canadian universities and professional organizations, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, to support the training of Saudi students and doctors and expand cooperation in accreditation and scientific research.

Al-Moallimi said Saudi–Canadian friendship committees have also been activated in Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council and the Canadian Parliament, creating an additional channel for political dialogue and stronger institutional ties.

She said the next phase of bilateral relations is expected to focus on sustainable partnerships and increased investment, academic exchange, and technological cooperation between Canada and Saudi Arabia.
