Toronto Warns of Fake Websites Selling Island Ferry Tickets

The City of Toronto is warning residents and visitors about fraudulent websites impersonating the municipality and offering fake tickets for ferries travelling to the Toronto Islands.
In an alert issued on Sunday, August 2, 2026, the city said it had received reports of websites designed to resemble official municipal pages. The fraudulent sites seek to steal users’ money, credit card details and other sensitive personal information.
Officials stressed that ferry tickets should only be purchased through the ticket portal linked from the official City of Toronto website, which uses the “toronto.ca” domain, or directly from an open ticket booth at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal.
Toronto Island ferries depart from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal at 9 Queens Quay West. During the summer season, ferries serve Centre Island, Hanlan’s Point and Ward’s Island. Official tickets are valid for travel to any island dock and include the return journey from any dock to the mainland terminal. Tickets purchased online remain valid until the end of the calendar year in which they were bought.
Visitors are advised to check the website address carefully before entering payment information and to avoid links appearing in unsolicited messages, advertisements or unofficial search results.
Anyone who has entered banking information or made a payment through a suspected fraudulent website should immediately contact their bank or credit card provider, change affected passwords, preserve transaction records and report the incident to local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
The city’s warning did not provide figures on the number of people affected or the value of any potential financial losses.
