Alberta has received 200 additional provincial nomination spaces under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) for 2026, increasing its annual allocation from 6,403 to 6,603 nominations, following an additional allocation from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the province confirmed in an August 10 update.
The increase gives Alberta additional capacity to nominate candidates for permanent residence during the remainder of the year while responding to regional labour-market needs and provincial economic priorities.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream received the largest increase, with its allocation rising to 3,562 nominations, an increase of 137 spaces. The Rural Renewal Stream increased to 1,057 nominations, adding 57 spaces.
Allocations also increased for several priority pathways, including health-care and technology-related streams. Alberta says its 2026 worker-stream priorities include occupations in health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation and agriculture, as well as communities designated under the Rural Renewal Stream.
The additional allocation does not guarantee a nomination for candidates in the AAIP pool. Selection continues to depend on eligibility requirements, provincial priorities and individual AAIP draws.
