As part of Music Without Borders’ celebration of Umm Kulthum’s musical legacy, its Arabic music ensemble will present three performances of “Umm Kulthum 2” in Oakville, Ottawa and Montreal this September, following the success of its first program dedicated to the legendary Egyptian singer. This year’s production features a fresh selection from Umm Kulthum’s repertoire along with new musical arrangements.
The series begins in Oakville on Sunday, September 13, at 7 p.m. at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, followed by Ottawa on Friday, September 25, at 8:30 p.m. at the Kailash Mital Theatre at Carleton University, before concluding in Montreal on Saturday, September 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Oscar Peterson Concert Hall at Concordia University.
Jana Daher, co-founder and executive director of Music Without Borders, said the new edition follows the success of the first Umm Kulthum program and will offer audiences a different selection of works by the iconic Arab singer as part of the Music Without Borders Festival 2026.
This year’s “Umm Kulthum 2” program brings together a new selection of works from one of the most celebrated repertoires in Arab music, continuing the presence of Umm Kulthum’s musical legacy on Canadian stages and introducing it to new generations of audiences.
Music Without Borders is a non-profit arts organization founded in Ontario in 2023 through the efforts of Syrian-Canadian musician Gaby Al Botros and Jana Daher. The organization uses music as a means of connecting cultures and organizes concerts, festivals and artistic projects aimed at crossing musical and cultural boundaries while creating opportunities for audiences from different backgrounds to connect through music.
