The United States has urged its citizens in Iran to leave the country immediately, advising them to consider departing by land to Turkiye or Armenia if it is safe to do so, amid escalating unrest and disruptions.
The advisory also tells Americans to plan to depart without relying on U.S. government assistance, warning of heightened risks of questioning, arrest, and detention in Iran. It adds that U.S.-Iranian dual nationals must exit on Iranian passports because Iran does not recognize dual nationality.
In Washington, President Donald Trump said his administration is weighing potential responses and warned the U.S. would take "very strong action" if Iran proceeds with executing protesters, Reuters reported, citing a CBS News interview.
The Associated Press reported Trump said he is seeking clearer confirmed information on the scale of killings and arrests and that the U.S. would "act accordingly", while urging Iran leaders to show "humanity" toward protesters.
