U.S. women’s national team routed Canada women’s national team 5-0 in the preliminary round at Milano Cortina 2026, delivering Canada its first-ever Olympic shutout against the Americans.
Caroline Harvey opened the scoring early, Hannah Bilka scored twice, Kirsten Simms added a power-play goal, and Laila Edwards completed the five-goal night. Abbey Murphy recorded three assists.
The win secured the United States the top spot in Group A and capped a dominant preliminary round in which Team USA allowed only one goal overall, according to USA Hockey.
Canada struggled offensively without captain Marie-Philip Poulin, sidelined by a lower-body injury. Coach Troy Ryan said her availability for Canada’s next game against Finland is doubtful, though the team remains optimistic she can return later in the tournament.
The women’s hockey tournament in Milan now turns toward the knockout stage, where a potential rematch between the rivals remains on the horizon.
