Egypt’s entertainment community awoke on Sunday, July 19, 2026, to the news of actor Ahmed Galal Abdel Qawi’s death at the age of 42, bringing an unexpectedly early end to a career remembered for several notable television roles.

Actors and colleagues shared the news on social media before messages of mourning began circulating widely among fans and members of the artistic community. Many expressed disbelief at the actor’s sudden passing and offered condolences to his family.

His death followed reports of a recent health crisis. Egyptian media outlets said medical examinations had revealed a tumour near the diaphragm and that his condition deteriorated rapidly. His family, however, had not released a detailed medical statement outlining the full circumstances of his death at the time of publication.

Although Abdel Qawi had remained away from the spotlight during parts of recent years, the announcement of his death prompted viewers to revisit the performances that first brought him public recognition.

He was particularly remembered for his role in the television drama Hadret El Motaham Abi, in which he appeared alongside the late Egyptian star Nour El Sherif.

His television credits also included Hadith Al Sabah Wal Masa, El Leil We Akheroh, Hayat El Gohary, and Doctor Amrad Nesa. He also appeared in the film Hassan and Marcus.

Born in Cairo in 1984, Abdel Qawi studied acting at Egypt’s Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts. He grew up in a family closely connected to Egyptian television, as the son of prominent screenwriter Mohamed Galal Abdel Qawi.

The widespread grief surrounding his death reflected not only the shock of losing an actor at a young age, but also the lasting connection audiences maintained with his work despite his long periods away from the screen.
