Alkhan Bazaar in Canada added a meaningful educational touch to its community event this year, offering children a simple and joyful experience that introduced them to the atmosphere and basic meanings of Hajj.

The bazaar was not only a space for shopping and family gathering. It became a warm community moment where children were able to take part in a symbolic Hajj experience designed for their age, with some wearing simple Ihram-style clothing and participating in activities that helped them understand the spiritual meaning of the pilgrimage in a visual and memorable way.

The initiative reflects a growing need within Arab and Muslim communities in Canada to connect children with their heritage through lived experiences, not only through classroom explanations. For many children growing up in the diaspora, such activities make cultural and religious identity feel familiar, joyful and shared.

Ms. Amira Al-Khatib, the organizer of the event, explained that the initiative was carried out in collaboration with Ummaty School, giving children the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of Hajj in a simple, safe and age-appropriate way, with the support and participation of their families.

The importance of the initiative lies in the way it expands the idea of a bazaar. It is no longer only about selling products or bringing families together for a day out. It becomes a place for learning, belonging and building memories for children who are growing up between cultures.

The event also showed the role of parents in making community activities successful. Their presence, support and encouragement helped turn a simple idea into a meaningful experience for children and families.

Through the children’s smiles and the families’ participation, Alkhan Bazaar offered a thoughtful example of how community events can carry deeper value when they combine connection, education and love for heritage.
