Conflicting Accounts Emerge Over Bahaa Sultan Car Crash

Questions have emerged over the circumstances surrounding Egyptian singer Bahaa Sultan’s car crash on the Wadi El Natrun–Alamein road on Saturday, September 5, after two conflicting accounts surfaced Monday over who was driving the vehicle and what caused the crash. Both accounts, however, confirmed that the singer’s condition is stable and that he has returned to his home in Cairo.

Dr. Ibrahim Harb, director of Alamein Hospital, said Sultan had been suffering from severe exhaustion and lack of sleep and briefly dozed off while driving, causing the vehicle to hit a wall. He said the singer was taken to hospital, underwent medical examinations and remained under observation for nearly 24 hours as a precaution against a possible concussion before being discharged in good condition.

A sharply different account was later provided by Abdelrahman Begato, Sultan’s manager, in statements to Masrawy. Begato said the singer was not driving the vehicle at the time of the crash and that a driver was behind the wheel. According to his account, the car overturned after colliding with a tow truck on the Wadi El Natrun road, rejecting the claim that Sultan had fallen asleep while driving.

The cause of the crash therefore remains disputed. While the hospital director attributed the accident to fatigue and drowsiness while Sultan was driving, his manager maintains that the singer was a passenger and that the vehicle overturned following a collision with another vehicle. No independent official account has yet emerged to resolve the discrepancy.

Sultan has since returned to his home in Cairo after leaving Alamein Hospital. Medical examinations indicated that his condition was stable, with reports of minor bruises and abrasions requiring rest and follow-up care.

Begato said the singer is preparing to resume his artistic commitments, including a scheduled concert in Tunisia on September 11, followed by another performance in Jeddah on September 18, subject to his continued recovery.
